Team Bitter End Excels to Bermuda!

Congratulations to Team Bitter End. Youth is served! And even better, female youth is served. On one of sailing’s biggest stages (the biennial Newport to Bermuda Race), Team Bitter End showed much of the 187 boat fleet her transom, finishing 27th across the line, and placing 6th in Class and 8th in the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse division. For those unfamiliar, the all-female TBE race crew is between the ages of 16 and 19 years (plus noted round the world racer Libby Greenhalgh).

The young crew also had the benefit of pre-race training with the prestigious Oakcliff Sailing program, a nonprofit sail-training organization run by Dawn Riley, a member of the first all-female team to sail around the world. The 52nd running of the Bermuda Race served up big breeze, giant ocean swells, and many tactical challenges.

Through it all, Team Bitter End showed her resilience, and she and her entire crew are sure to be among the vanguard of a youth movement and gender equality in offshore sailing. Click here to check out this post race interview with crew member Callie Dawson.
